Gazing at the ring on your finger, you frown slightly running your hands over the cool metal. The diamond embedded in it glints in the candlelight.
You're seated on the edge of the windowsill, gazing out, one of your legs dangling off the edge. A slight breeze ruffles your hair causing you to straighten up, and brush your hair back.
The engagement was a short and simple process. You had gone out onto the balcony overlooking the capital square, announcing to your people of your engagement to Lord Vox Akuma. They were thrilled, cheers and whoops could be heard as the people celebrated. What they failed to notice was how your smile failed to reach your eyes as Vox slipped the engagement ring onto your left ring finger, his eyes never leaving you.
What was meant to be a jubilant night left you, drained, both physically and mentally. You could still hear the sounds of a lively party downstairs but you had neither the strength nor the will to want to go back downstairs. The only reason why you stuck around for so long after the public engagement announcement was so you wouldn't have to deal with the scrutinizing gazes of members of the council. That was a bigger headache than you would have liked to deal with.
You sigh, getting up from where you were seated, walking over to the desk, and pulling out your journal, a quill, and ink. You absentmindedly dip the tip into the dark liquid. The sound of your quiet scratching fills the room along with the crackling of the fireplace at the other end. It's peaceful and almost lets you forget about your worries.

/==/The creaking of the door alerts you of another presence, causing you to look up. It's none other than your betrothed, Lord Vox Akuma, of the Luxiem Regency. His face has traces of an alcohol flush, his hair slightly disheveled, but other than that, he stands tall, with an air of regality, walking towards you. There's a gentle smile on his face as he leans over where you're standing, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
"Hello my love, I missed you at the party."
"Please don't call me that."
"Lord Akuma, our arrangement was out of necessity. Unless we're in public please refrain from calling me as such."
