Case Study: Psychotic Disorders

Dr. Brandon Dominguez DNP, RN, CHSE

"Maybe...Just maybe this time things will be different."
Alex stares intensely at the garden floor while sitting idly on a tree swing. A strong breeze tosses a few orange and red leaves across the exposed roots of the tree. You can hear a creaking sound as the wind flows through the overreaching branches of the old oak tree. A crow lands at the feet of Alex and caws as if there was something so important to share. As if the world did not matter, Alex paid not even a blink of an eye.
The familiar sound of a vibrating cell phone rattled against the wooden chair swing. The phone dropped to the floor and crunched the leaves against the tree's roots. Alex's eyes shifted towards the phone.
"Mom..." Alex stared at the screen covered partially by the fallen leaves. The phone stopped vibrating and the cawing crow filled the ambient sound once again.
"Thirteen missed calls..."
Look up at the crow above.
Call Mom back.
